Description of Significance FUNDED BY THE PUBLIC WORKS ADMINISTRATION (PWA), THIS FOUR STORY, LIMESTONE BUILDING COMBINES NEOCLASSICAL AND ART DECO DETAILS. DESIGNED BY ARCHITECT WALTER VAHLBERG, THE COURTHOUSE WAS THE LARGEST PUBLIC WORKS PROJECT IN CLEVELAND COUNTY. THE STYLIZED CLASSICAL MOTIF OF THE ORNAMENTATION WAS COMMONLY USED ON PWA BUILDINGS, LEADING TO THE THE USE OF THE TERM PWA DECO TO DESCRIBE THE OVERALL STYLISTIC DESIGN. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 12/28/00.
